Best Date Evah!

I have to say that our last date was probably the best date ever. We went bike riding along a canal in our metro area. Supposedly, you can bike from the locks to downtown (Mark thinks it’s like 7 miles but I’m not sure). We didn’t do that. I’ve done something funky to my knee, so it was slightly painful but not that bad.

Anyway, we took the afternoon and biked while the kids slept/played with our fav babysitter Miss Tracy. We biked about five miles total. It was such a nice day, nice workout , and wonderful conversation. We talked about a ton of things including my Bible study and different things going on. Lots of fun. We stopped at a nice spot where you could wade out into the Savannah River. We saw fish and as we were leaving, a moccasin (a not so nice snake for all you city folk)…fortunately we figured out what it was before it got too close to a dad holding his child and I was able to barely scream out “SNAKE!” No joke, that snake was heading fast and straight for them…scary!

Mother’s Day Rebel (and Father’s Day Rebel for that matter)

Mark and I have decided that since Mother’s Day is NOT in the Bible, that we can switch it to whatever day works for us. Sunday’s are really hard to take time out and actually honor each other and the jobs we do as moms and dads. For example, last Mother’s Day I had a MOPS Steering Team meeting and Mark and I had nursery that night. Now it just so happens there was a “special” called meeting that night for church and it did not end for three hours. I was pregnant, achy and tired by the time it ended. Oh, and did I mention that Mark had sound that day and night so I didn’t even get to see him except for the couple hours between services (which he usually does on Mother’s day and Father’s day). Needless to say, we decided to change our celebration day since our church doesn’t really want Mother’s (well, at least this mother) to have the day off.

Mark and I just realized that we were going to switch the days just now, so tonight, since MOPS was over today and Josiah has decided that screaming and yelling is a lot more fun than taking a nap, we are going out to eat! Mark is giving me Saturday to scrapbook and then we’ll head over to hear a free concert by our city’s symphony (which is an awesome concert)…which if it rains, will be held at our church…which means that when Mark has to do sound on Sunday he’ll have to get there extra early! Yet another good reason to not celebrate on Sunday.

Just thought I’d share…

In Focus

I’m in a ladies Bible study on Saturday mornings (every other Saturday). We’re going through a book right now called, Between Walden and the Whirlwind. I have to say it is an awesome book and through scripture and lots of prayer I am learning to focus on my Creator and Director.

After Bible study this morning, I got home to rush getting stuff ready for a Sunday school party tonight and just general clean up since Mark and I were going on a great date (we went bicycling and I’ll post more on that later). However, I checked our phone messages. Mark had missed a call from my mom while he was trying to get things ready for us to go. I checked the message and learned that my grandfather passed away. Talk about focusing on God!

Please pray for my family as we face another good bye on my mother’s side. He was the last of my grandparents living.

Adventures in Shopping

This is an atypical shopping trip…but I just thought I’d share that Murphy’s Law (what can go wrong will) was applied to our outing today.

So, it’s the first of the month and I thought I would try and get ahead of our monthly shopping and hit some stores by myself. One included a quick trip into a grocery store to see what their price was on organic/”green” beef…we’re trying to decide if it’s worth the increase in price to purchase this beef compared to what we get at our wholesale store. It took only a few seconds for me to see that their prices were more than what I could pay at EarthFare (our organic/health food store). We left there, change Josiah, fed Josiah, and headed to Sam’s.

Sam’s is always busy but even more so at the first of the month. As we walked through the parking lot, I had Zoe holding Liam’s hand, Ace holding onto my pants and Liam was holding my hand. Of course, I was carrying Josiah. As Ace continued to pull my pants down, I asked him to please stop. He didn’t and shortly after this, he tripped on a parking block (you know the ones that keep you from driving onto a curb, etc). As he tripped, he jerked my pants with him. Thankfully, they didn’t come all the way down, but I was showing a little belly and undies for a second. I got angry (because I lost sight of what a blessing he was at the time) and decided he couldn’t really be that bad hurt…it did look a little dirty but that was it. I made up my mind to proceed through the store and get what we needed…however, Liam saw someone’s bicycle parked outside the store and decided to touch and play with every part of it. After dragging him into the store and safely secured into a shopping cart, I bent down to check Ace’s knee. And Liam kicked me in the face (not on purpose). I finally get a good look at Ace’s knee and I saw that he lost a good bit of skin…now I’m mad at myself for getting angry with him for declothing me. We rush through Sam’s while I try to keep Zoe from being an annoying big sister and bugging Ace. Every time I mention getting to the car to doctor up Ace’s knee, he moaned in pain…or drama.

After doctoring up Ace’s knee, changing Liam’s training pants (soaked…and we were out of disposable pull ups), we headed to Wal-Mart to pick up the aforementioned disposable pants and to get some lunch. Boy, that’s a run on sentence right there! Sorry, mom! Anyway, back to the story. So, we’re happily eating our greasy burgers, chicken, and fries, and Liam announces that he pooped. Which meant that he teeteed. Common terminology for him. Let me back up for a second, I only brought in the stroller, my wallet, and the kids because it was going to be a quick trip in for food and pull ups…no diapers, no cloth training pants. A couple of seconds later, he announces he pooped again. And sure enough…he did. We finish eating, Josiah’s fussing for a nap, and I rush to the bathroom to dump Liam’s disposal and slap the dirty pants back on…sorry, but that’s all I could think to do at the time. I secure Liam into the stroller and we head to get our items. After that it was pretty uneventful since I was tired and ready to head home!

Such is life, shopping with four children under five!

Sweet Blessings

In light of what I posted yesterday, I wanted to relate two comments I’ve heard this week.

First off, I was at the grocery store yesterday and a lady came back, looked at me with my brood, and said the typical, “Are they all yours?”

I was waiting for the sarcastic look and scoff when I said, “Yes ma’am.”

She smiled bigger and said, “Oh, you are so blessed!”

Ahhh, what a sweet comment, and always needed in light of the other comments and stares I’ve received in the past.

In contrast, at church tonight, I had the kids out on the playground before they went to class. A mom of three and I were discussing tattle telling (a ever growing problem around here lately) and a grandmother had her two grandchildren out there and chimed in.

“I’m glad I only had one. I always thought I wanted nine until after the first birth and I said no way, not again, do whatever you need to do to keep it from happening again.”

Now, I don’t know exactly what her situation was with her first birth, but I felt really sad for her. And like I was wrong for my sweet blessings! I know that I am truly blessed with my children and can’t wait to see how many more children God will bring into our lives, through adoption, through our children, and however else! They are true blessings and I love seeing their innocence, their sweetness, and even their sinful natures, as they try to be more like me, and hopefully more like Christ.

In The Message Bible, it translates Psalm 127:3 as saying, “Do you not know that children are God’s best gift?”

I think sometimes it’s easy to forget that. They are the best gift despite all the whining, diapering, snot wiping, and, yes, even tattle telling. Then, I read or see how some mothers and fathers have to struggle because they are losing their best gift. Or their best gift struggles to catch up with his/her peers…wow! My children are my best gift. I pray it doesn’t take losing them to see what a gift they are. I am reminded daily as I pray for our minister and his wife, what a blessing…what a gift, my children are. Thank you for my gifts!

Two Losses

I’ve mentioned before about Baby Emma, one of our minister’s new daughters. She has been diagnosed with a genetic disorder that causes her to break out in blisters. She is just one month old, and has been in and out of the hospital three times. She is currently in the hospital with an infection in the sores. There are three forms of this disorder. She has the intermediate form which means that she will always have these sores. Please pray for her, her parents, and the rest of the family. We are so blessed to have healthy children. My heart breaks for this family. They’ve lost the ideal for the perfect baby, perfect family.

Another family that I have been reading about here, has been experiencing another form of loss. Todd Smith is a member of the Christian music group Selah. He and his wife recently lost their fourth baby two and half hours after she was born. Their story is below. For anyone that is dealing with the loss, especially surrounding their children, their story brings true encouragement from God’s Word!

Creepy Crawlies

Zoe’s really into actually touching bugs, and whatever else she can get her hands on. She’s just missed picking up a lizard and she’s been trying to catch a caterpillar for awhile now. Well, she got one a couple of weeks ago!

This is one of Zoe’s friends with the caterpillar. Poor caterpillar got tossed from one to the other before they ran around the yard with it and it got thrown into the grass! It’s definitely earned it’s wings.

Josiah’s 10 Months

Josiah’s growing so fast! He has eight teeth, maybe more, but do you want to stick your finger in the mouth of a baby with eight teeth??? He’s eating like it’s going out of style! He still loves to nurse.

A funny nursing thing I’ve noticed is that when I even mention getting some “mommy’s milk” he spits out his paci, and “assumes the position,” complete with lips smacking!

Okay back to little JB. He’s also starting to commando crawl (belly crawl) more. He started to pull up onto his knees today and he also pulled up while holding my hands. He has got such a sweet personality…as long as mama’s holding him. He’ll grin and sometimes he squints his eyes when he grins. He’s really getting into laughing at everybody.

Just a few sweet words about my baby boy!

Going on a Joy Ride

A couple of weekends ago, our neighbors came by with a big John Deere tractor. He had been using it to level off some of his yard. We casually mentioned that we needed to get some stumps out of our yard…after the kids went riding down the street. He pushed and got two up but one is just too big and will have to be chemically removed. I’m excited. I think I’ve got enough space to plant my crepe myrtles that I’ve been wanting to get for over a year.

And the Winner is…

Kyra from The Adventures of Me! Kyra won a set of 16 notecards created by me! Thanks to everyone who entered. I hope you all come back to my blog and visit here and there! This was a fun contest.

On other news, I’m trying to publish some video but can’t seem to get it to come up. Wonder if I know anyone who is handy with a computer???Hmmm!

Oh and for those curious, this is how we picked a winner. I put the numbers in a column and had each child (and Mark) pick a number. Liam picked 4 (he always says four). Ace picked 30 because 3 was not in his column and 30 has 3 in it. Zoe picked 45 just because. Mark picked 66…that’s what popped into his head. So, I cut those four numbers up and let Zoe draw out a number because she is the only one who gets the whole idea of drawing a number! And she got Kyra’s! There ya go!
