Our Anniversary…what a weird day!

Mark and I celebrated our 8th Wedding Anniversary yesterday. We are going out of town this coming weekend so it was low key. But, I planned a nice big dinner and I kept the kids up so they’d go to bed early.

This is how it all went down:

I was exhausted after keeping them up all day. It hailed…yes, hailed right as Mark was coming home. Fortunately, he didn’t get caught in any of it since it was moving in a different direction. He got home, we parted and I headed to get some extra stuff at Target while he went to get gas for the grill with the kids. I didn’t find what I needed at Target but we met up at home. I finished the kids supper and he gave them a bath.

While they ate, I tried to make frosting for our dessert. Unfortunately, the butter exploded while I was trying to melt it in the microwave. Before that I pulled out a new stoneware pan to cook the potatoes on and when I poured the warm potatoes on the hot pan it busted! Got all that done…then I got the potatoes in a metal pan and stuck them in the oven (they were yummy roasted new potatoes). We got the kids bathed, fed, and we did our family worship. In the meantime the potatoes got done and Mark headed to turn them off. I kept smelling a burning smell and as we were putting the kids down, I went to the kitchen, thinking the potatoes were still cooking a little too much while the oven cooled down. Nope, Mark had accidentally turned the oven on to broil! Burnt potatoes, smokey and stinky house. Yikes!

After that, it went well. God blessed us with no rain while he grilled our New York Strips! I have a great marinade, which is what I crave in a good steak and we both were stuffed! We ended the night with dessert and watching our wedding video and commenting about how “country” we used to sound…although people don’t tell us that often.

We always have memorable holidays and special events!

Here’s Your Sign!

Mark and I loved Bill Engvall’s song and “bit” about “Here’s Your Sign” when people say some pretty silly things.

Here are few “Here’s Your Sign!” moments recently.

I thought I had ordered a new tire for Zoe’s bike from a bike shop. Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication, I think on my part, and they had ordered a wheel. So I asked the overly friendly (almost flirtatious…with my wedding band showing and obvious statements that I was married) clerk if I could purchase a white wheel at another store.

“Does it have to be white?” clerk
“Yes, it’s for a princess bike.”
“Ohh,” smiling clerk, “For a girl?”
“Umm, yes for my daughter!”

Here’s your sign…and your business card with your personal phone number back!!! (Okay, really, when I say that my husband can put it on, why in the world would you give me a card and write your number on the back. He said it was so I could call him and order a white tire if I couldn’t find one from somewhere else…really…it’s not that important that I need to call a complete stranger about. I told Mark and I didn’t feel comfortable going there so we won’t be back and I’ll probably just order bike stuff online, at the superstore, or another one of the many bike places around here…sorry, I got off on a tangent.)

And Mark’s: We were loading up the car at a pit stop on the way to my grandfather’s funeral a couple of weeks ago. Mark had unlocked the doors and left the keys in the door keyhole. As he’s unloading and loading kids, a very nice older lady said, “Don’t forget your keys in the door!” Mark smiled said thanks, and then realized…ummm, we wouldn’t go anywhere without them!

More Muddy Feet

Part of Mother’s Day included getting the kids hands in some cement for a stepping stone. I’ve been wanting to do this every year for about two years…this year, it’s done and started! I can’t wait to see how they will grow and change over the years.

Yeah, the hand thing didn’t go over so well with Josiah. So, we did his foot.

Ballet

Well, this week marked the last week of ballet for my kids. I’m sad. They don’t understand, but they all had a blast. We had a fun time at ballet class on Tuesday and then last night, we got to watch a free program from Columbia County Ballet called May Celebration. At the end, the kids got to receive a rose from a local florist as well as a coupon for a free ice cream!

When Mark and I got home yesterday we changed the kids clothes and headed to get something to eat and then had a picnic at the library park near the amphitheater where the program was held. It was very relaxing and so much fun to watch the kids. We met up with some friends before the program and the kids enjoyed playing and watching the ballet with them.

Zoo Trip 08

We went to the zoo last Friday with some friends from Mark’s college days. They have a 15 month old and are expecting another little one in October! It was a lot of fun. Surprisingly, the kids did not pitch fits while were there. Liam loved the monkeys. Zoe liked the meerkats and Ace enjoyed the elephants. Josiah just enjoyed getting down to play at the end of the day.

Anyway, enjoy the slideshow!

And here’s a video of Liam “talking” with the animals. Actually, he’s trying to keep from getting nipped at by the goats.

Counting Down…

Zoe and Ace are getting super excited about going to see Prince Caspian. As is Liam! We’re re-reading the books to get ready for it. We were going to go see it this past Saturday, but God had other plans…so, we’ll be taking them on Friday. They are pumped and it’ll be a good “Pre-K Graduation” for Zoe!

So, 6 more days until we see Prince Caspian!

Saying Goodbye for Now

When I first found out that Emma had gone to be with Jesus, I was in shock. I kept saying, “No God, please no.” Then I spent all of Tuesday afternoon telling Him how much I didn’t like this decision. I didn’t think it was fair. In the same breath as I said I didn’t like what He was doing, I also told Him I wanted to see how He was going to use this for His glory.

I saw a glimpse of it today at the funeral. Mark and I were blessed with a wonderful friend to watch our children while we attended Emma’s memorial service. We were able to grieve with our friends as well as serve them. My heart broke when I saw a good friend, Emma’s young cousins, crying over the loss of their sweet baby cousin.

Emma’s daddy, Denny spoke and felt it was so important to tell people that he was grieving but he knew that Emma was with Jesus and couldn’t wait to be with her some day.

I was drawn back to when Kennis went to be with Jesus and my heart ached even more. We were not able to attend her funeral because I was so far along in my pregnancy. Today I grieved over my niece’s broken heart for her best friend leaving her for now.

I had sweet thoughts today that not only is Kennis praising God in Heaven, so is sweet baby Emma, and even our sweet second baby that was “miscarried” at 9 weeks (in 2003). They are all whole and well and worshipping the one who created them.

Thank you God, through my tears, for making these sweet beautiful children. I know that you make all things new! I praise you for making Emma and for giving her a new body as she worships You, her Creator. For making Kennis in her “diva” style and giving her a whole body as she sings praise to Your Name. And for our sweet baby that we will only get to hold when we see You again.

1My voice rises to God, and I wil cry aloud;
My voice rises to God, and He will hear me.
2In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord;
In the night my hand was stretched out without weariness;
My soul refused to be comforted.
3When I remember God, then I am disturbed;
When I sigh, then my spirit grows faint. Selah.
4You have held my eyelids open;
I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
5I have considered the days of old,
The years of long ago.
6I will remember my song in the night;
I will meditate with my heart,
And my spirit ponders:
7Will the Lord reject forever?
And will He never be favorable again?
8Has His lovingkindness ceased forever?
Has His promise come to an end forever?
9Has God forgotten to be gracious,
Or has He in anger withdrawn His compassion? Selah.
10Then I said, “It is my grief,
That the right hand of the Most High has changed.”
11I shall remember the deeds of the LORD;
Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.
12I will meditate on all Your work
And muse on Your deeds.
13Your way, O God, is holy;
What god is great like our God?
14You are the God who works wonders;
You have made known Your strength among the peoples.
15You have by Your power redeemed Your people,
The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.
16The waters saw You, O God;
The waters saw You, they were in anguish;
The deeps also trembled.
17The clouds poured out water;
The skies gave forth a sound;
Your arrows flashed here and there.
18The sound of Your thunder was in the whirlwind;
The lightnings lit up the world;
The earth trembled and shook.
19Your way was in the sea
And Your paths in the mighty waters,
And Your footprints may not be known.
20You led Your people like a flock
By the hand of Moses and Aaron.
Psalm 77

How great and mighty is our awesome God!?!

Please continue to pray for Denny and Vickie and all of their family as they grieve this loss. They’ll be getting away this week to draw closer to God and each other, so please pray for this time.

Drywall…the new “black”

I’m not fond of painting with preschool children running around. However, we found a great deal on a larger freezer than our little 5 cu foot (which is now for sale…any takers) which means that getting the boys’ new closet, aka our old master closet, painted and our new wall where the old master closet was painted needs to be stepped up. Okay, that’s confusing I know. I want to get this project which has been going on for over a month now finished so we can get the boys room organized. I don’t have anywhere to put the new freezer, because we’re going to gut the utility room, clean, paint, put new flooring in and reshelve but we can’t do that until we finish the project we’re working on now.

So, I painted today. I hope to get most of it done today and then tomorrow we’ll have just a little to do. Mark is going to put in shelves in the closet to put/organize the boys’ toys (or lack thereof if Ace keeps refusing to do his job…that’s another story) and we’ll be ready to tear up the utility room. I can’t wait!!!

All that being said, why do we paint???Drywall should be “in” sometime soon. Maybe half finished painting with little toddler hands all over the wall will come back in style.

Soccer Camp

Zoe announced last fall that she would like to take Soccer the next year. We only allow one extra curricular per year (besides church stuff…which is getting cut back on too), so we waited. Meanwhile, my wonderfully dramatic, all very sensitive princess has fits when it’s “too hot” before bed. Sweating…no thank you. Running and getting hit or kicked…not on the top of her Most Wanted list. But she’s persisted that she wants to play soccer.

So, I signed her up for a camp this summer. She has her pink tennis shoes (which may be getting too tight…gotta check on that) and her ever so cheap (no joke…I was surprised) shin guards that are pink. We just need some shorts that can’t double as underwear and we’ll be set! I just hope I can survive the week of whining! I know, she’ll probably surprise me and love it…but I have some serious doubts.
