So, Josiah is now 3 months old. I would have posted some of his cute 3 month pics on Friday but I completely forgot that was when his 3 month birthday was. Before you judge me as a bad mama, Liam’s birthday is the 29th of December and I just got them confused thinking that Josiah was born on the 29th not the 28th…opps! He is now rolling without complaining from his belly to his back. He still loves one of our cats, Champ, and he thinks mom and dad hung the moon. He also loves to look at other babies. He’s dropped down to nursing like every three hours. And that’s three hours because I don’t want him to go any longer. He has one long stretch in the early evening of about five hours and then goes to three hours after that. I’m posting this because a lot of people want to know how he sleeps/eats…like you can’t tell he’s getting enough 🙂 Nah, I know there are just curiosity seekers. Keep scrolling down this post and you can watch a video clip of him talking. This is in quicktime so I hope everyone can see it.

Reunion Countdown
Mark’s 10 Year Reunion is two weeks away. I’m excited about seeing some of our mutual friends at the reunion. Unfortunatley, my body is still in post pardum mode and very “frumpy.” I had fully intended on exercising and getting at least close to my “original” dress size. But that has been put aside due to, well, life! I needed to purchase a dressy outfit for the reunion dinner on Saturday. And so, armed with the kids and Mark we headed out to look for it. He entertained the kids with ice cream and an indoor play place near the stores and I searched, picked, and squeezed in to several nursing friendly dresses, skirts, and shirts. I found my outfit at two stores. It’s actually a pair of pants that are long flowy dressy looking pants and then a nice satin style wrap shirt. I’m so excited because when I got it home, a necklace that my mom had gotten for me on our last trip up matches it perfectly. As does a bracelet that she purchased for me awhile back. Yippee…I may look a little pregnant in it, but hopefully, Josiah’s sling will cover it up.
I’m actually going to try and leave him. His long night stretch is early evening (from 7 or so and lasting about 5 hours). So, if he’ll actually eat before we leave, then I’ll be able to leave him with Mark’s parents. If not, then I’ll just load him up and wear him there. Wish me luck!!!
Josiah
Let me just say, that I did not threaten Mark to write that…he just did. I love ’em so much!
Josiah is showing a really goofy side to his personality…definitely fits into this family. He loves to laugh at anyone who walks by. And when you sing, his face lights up like a Christmas tree! Last night, he decided to get really mad when I had him on his belly and he rolled over! I’m still working with him on keeping his hands up so he can roll easier instead of just using his leg and hip strength. Something I just look for since our pt stint with Liam.
Anyways, after rolling over he stopped fussing and just looked at me and then smiled. A few minutes later, Champ the cat, jumped up beside him. He caught sight of Champ and grinned so big.
While preparing (fixing in the South) lunch today, he was very tired but I had to get it done, so I entertained him by singing and dancing. He smiled the whole time and when I stopped he started to fuss.
I’ll have some cute pictures of him just as soon as I find time to take them. It’s a MOPS week, so it’s been pretty crazy here.
“Yep, she’s amazing!”
That is the quote I’ve said several times over the last few days. What about, you ask? Well, what else? My sweet wife, of course.
Her plate of activities includes general care and maintenance of our 4 children under the age of 5; homeschooling one and half kids (Zoe & Ace); taking care of a 3-month old infant & nearly 2-year-old ball of energy; Mothers of Preschoolers program coordinator; side business of cards and sewing; beautician (her activity at this moment for the boys); and putting up with me.
So I just want to join in and let everyone know that, yes, she is amazing (and beautiful and wonderful and caring, too!!), and, yes, I know I’m a very blessed man.
I love you, Abbie!
Your Hubby
It’s Potty Time…maybe
Yesterday morning, I was changing Josiah’s diaper and Liam came up to me and said, “potty” in his language and headed to the bathroom. I wasn’t quite sure what he had said, so I was about to get on to him for going into the bathroom by himself when I realized what he said. I went in there with him and helped him with his clothes and he went potty! As a reward, I allowed him to put toilet paper in the potty and flush it…what can I say…cheap thrills!
I really don’t have time right now to devote to working solely on potty training but we’ll try when we get a break in October and see how it goes. By try, I mean I’ll put him in training pants and see what happens.
No big rush since we use cloth. Although, I have to admit I would really enjoy just having to keep up with one set of diapers and diaper changing times…and cleaning poopy up from diapers would be nice to narrow down to one breastfed poop…
While I’m on the subject of diapers and bodily functions…I have never met a gassier baby than Josiah. Except now there are like three of them in church nursery. And don’t think that just because his poopy doesn’t stink his gas doesn’t…it does…bad…to the point of passing out. I’m very serious about this. When I remarked to him that his gas stinks works than his daddy’s, he got a big open mouth grin on his face and tried to laugh. I can only imagine what the nursery at church would smell like if all three of these babies started going at once! Ughhhh! Not only that, at ballet today he “passed gas” and one of the other moms thought her baby had a dirty diaper and she was a good bit away from us. Yes, it’s that bad! At least he’s not holding it in and getting crampy.
Missing Sleepy Bear

I don’t know what has made me think of it, but I just started thinking about Zoe’s Sleepy Bear today and really miss him. It’s a sad tragic story of his disappearance. The picture above is Zoe with her “Sleepy Bear” in 2005.
Sleepy Bear was Zoe’s cuddly toy for bedtimes/naptimes/and general security needs. She’d had him from the time she was about 9 month old on. He helped her learn to fall asleep, survive nursery during those hard separation anxiety times, and generally made her happy. He went on all our overnight trips and an occasional trip to Wal-Mart (always in the car while we shopped). We, unfortunately, only had one of him because when we found out that cuddly toys would work great for getting babies to sleep, her bear had been discontinued. Oh well, she was attached to him right from the start. On our vacation this summer, we stayed overnight, at a hotel on the way up and then on the way back.
I think that on the way back, we were in such a hurry to get home, that we didn’t really scan the room for any leftovers. We believe that Sleepy Bear “slept in” and decided to stay at the hotel. Ughhhh, we got home that night and searched high and low for him but he never turned up.
And Zoe’s attitude…she was fine with it. Mark and I were almost in tears. Her cuddly from infanthood….disappeared. She picked another animal and slept with it and even decided to call one of her other bears Sleepy Bear.
Mark searched in vain for Sleepy Bear calling for days. I think the hotel people just thought we were absolutely crazy to be looking for it…he did look a little ragged and worn and needed a bath badly. And to think, he’s hanging out in the dump somewhere with no one to sleep with him! I’m still sad just thinking about it.
Fortunately, we had learned our lesson after spending hours searching for Sleepy Bear on several occasions. All of the kids have two cuddly toys (although Ace is down to one as one disappeared in D.C. last year). They also have popular ones that shouldn’t be discontinued for a little while and should be easy to find.
Too Funny
After the visitation on Monday, at the funeral home, in walked two members of our Sunday school class. I was curious as to why they were so late. They informed us that they were lost. The visitation was in another town about 45 minutes away. I knew the area because I had worked there when we first moved here.
A while later, the wife of the couple then told me that they had passed a cop with a radar gun and decided to turn around and ask him for directions. I knew full well who she was talking about as we had seen him when we came in too. Unfortunately for her, the cop that she was referring to was a cardboard cut out designed to help encourage drivers to slow down. I knew this as I had turned to see if anyone was in the police car behind the man, and there was no one nor was there any dimension to the policeman. So, the wife, then informs me that they stop in front of the man, and before she can get out of the car she realizes he is looking at her funny and then she realized that he was not real. He does look really real when you’re right there by him.
An Update
Life here has been nonstop. I’ve realized recently that I have not taken many pictures. Too busy I guess.
Well, on Monday, we went to the funeral home to be with my best friend and her husband. His mother had passed away last week. That was our “date” and it actually was nice because we were able to talk on the long drive to the funeral home.
For some reason, on Monday, I thought I could actually make it through school then to the store and then to speech. I forgot that I also had to go pick up the unsold clothes from consignment. So, we had school, ran to the store but didn’t get out of there until 12. Zoe’s speech was at 12:30 so we rushed through McDonald’s and then headed to speech. After dropping Zoe off at speech, I rushed home, unloaded groceries and then headed back to pick up Zoe and then all the way across town to get the clothes. Needless to say, naps were shot and we watched a movie until the babysitter came and Mark and I left for the funeral home.
Tuesday was a little less busy. We just had ballet. Ace is doing lots better in there. He really is enjoying his class and making new friends. They take such extra care to make sure he receives “boy” activities. They did Angelina Ballerina and he got to wear the brown mouse ears and got a cute picture to color of a boy bear doing a ballet position.
After supper on Tuesday, we headed outside and Zoe rode her bike and Ace practiced riding on the tricycle. We’ve discovered that Ace’s helmet is now too small for him. Zoe was doing so well with her bike…even with the training wheels being too low she was peddling and steering like a pro and was even starting to get the braking thing. She has handlebar brakes, but it’s easier for her to use the backward brakes. Each day it amazes me how big she is getting. She’s growing up so fast. Ace did good…he just is now trying to get the hang of steering. I’m hoping he’ll have it down by Christmas so he can ask “Santa” for a bike.
Today was spent watching my friend’s children while they attended the funeral. The kids had a blast over there as always and the time quickly flew by. Zoe left church with her best friend to spend the night. Again, she’s growing up so fast. It’s hard for me to let her go, but she’s excited about doing it.
Now I’m zonked and will be heading to bed shortly! I’ll try and actually take pictures tomorrow or in the next few days.
Rolllll Tide!
You should have seen Mark tonight. I’m getting his craziness on video next week and show it to everyone! He’s so funny when Alabama plays. He told me he wasn’t performing next week but I highly doubt that as we’ll be playing Georgia!!!
I got to get my Bama sling done before then. I found some Alabama material while visiting my parents and have it ready to make a sling but haven’t had the time yet…gotta get on it so I can wear it to church on Sunday if we when!
I got three slings made and up on the web and one order of cards done. I’m going to bed.
MOPS and beyond
Yesterday was a loooooonnnnnngggggg day. I’m not exaggerating. MOPS went great and I’m so looking forward to this year. After MOPS it was home to nap time, school time and work time. After Mark got home, I headed out to the consignment sale that I volunteered at and put clothes in and got a few “toys” for the kids for gifts for Christmas, etc. That was a pretty fruitful find for Josiah since he’s going to be small and not require much for his Christmas gifts. Then back home to help get the kids in bed and then I find out that my best friend’s mother-in-law had passed away. Totally unexpected. So, I headed over to their house and helped out until about 11 and then back home.
On a happy note, my parents are going to get to go to the Masters practice round next year. Excited? Definitely. My dad has dreamed about going for a long time. We finally were able to get tickets (actually, remembered to inquire about them). And I just got my Focus on the Family Daily Digest about their speaking topic, and the guy they are having on there on Monday and Tuesday is a former player of Dad’s. Dad spoke fondly of him this past summer and I always meant to get in touch with him to get him to write something up…of course, that was when Dad was retiring from coaching…I guess I can get to work on it now, even though I’m not completely convinced this is his last year.
Today, was fun with a field trip to see CCB’s ballet and then play on the playground and eat lunch outside. We all had a good time. I’ve got one sling partially made and have plans to finish up two more before the weekend is over and I have to hit the ground running on MOPS stuff and helping out with our friends’ during the funeral process.
Have a great weekend.
