I’m So Honored…

to accept the Mother of the Year award! I’d like to thank all the little people…oh, and the littlest of all who helped me clinch the award thanks to this:

Mark and I attended a homeschool conference this past weekend. As an aside, I’m totally not a blog stalker but I found a blog on my Google Reader page and read it and realized she lives the exact same life that I do, except she has twin five year olds…I only have singletons…however, while at the conference, I told Mark I thought I saw the woman who wrote the blog. He laughed and told me I needed to tell her hello so I wouldn’t be reading yet another blog by someone I didn’t know. I chickened out…but then I found out later it was her! Ughh! Oh well.

Anyway, this conference has a big used book sale. So big that you have to have a timed or numbered entry to get in. We were set for 10:10 per our badges. I had just finished nursing Ceili Rain and slipped her back in the sling. I told Mark that she probably had a dirty diaper and he informed me we had about two minutes. I weighed my choice and decided a good buy was far more important than changing a dirty. Plus, when I looked (yeah, I looked) there was only a little bit.

So two minutes passed and Mark and I took off in different directions. I distinctly remember bending over the table and catching a whiff of breastmilk poop. Hmm, I thought, I guess she really needs a change. So, I looked around for Mark and then went back to my examination of the books…still smelling that lovely aroma. Mark made his appearance a little while later with just a few things from my list. I asked him if he could change Ceili Rain’s diaper and because he’s an awesome dad he obliged. I scooted her out of the sling and he took off to a far corner of the exhibit hall.

I don’t remember why, but I for some reason I decided to put my hand in the sling…and came back with a poop covered hand. Yep! She had a huge blowout. I took the sling off and marched over to Mark who informed me of the obvious…her diaper leaked…to which I informed him of the same obvious…all over the sling. He cleaned her up, wiped down the sling, and I stuck her back in it for the rest of the weekend.

And that, my friends, is why I deserve the Mother of the Year award. I made my daughter ride in a sling that had poop all over it. To my defense, we wiped most of it out and put a burp cloth over it so she wouldn’t get any on her. And also, my new sling that I made has a wonderful poop hiding pattern on it. It took me a little time to find the stain when we got home but I did and it came out.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I’ve got one other story to share for the weekend but it doesn’t fit in this category and it’s already a long post to begin with.

  1. Abbie – this is hilarious! Girl, you definitely deserve the Mother of the Year award. I remember the first time I changed Tyler in the nursery at church. By the time we were done he had peed and I think it went in his hair AND he pooped all over the changing table. Gross! All in a day’s work right?
