When I Grow Up

I love lunchtime conversations:

Ace: I’m going to be a daddy when I grow up.

Me: What else? You have to support your family.

Ace: Actually, I’m going to be a cowboy.

Zoe: You have to move to a different country to be a cowboy.

Ace: I have to move to Alabama and be a cowboy.

There ya have it. Alabama is another country and it’s the only place you can go to be a cowboy. He also said he wanted sixteen (first he wanted to know if that was a number)…no, four, no, twins, no actually one, no, four, no, five, no four…children.

Zoe’s Poem

Here’s my sweet girl’s poem and the picture that you can see through on the page. She didn’t tell me what the picture was below the poem. And, all the spelling, punctuation, and writing was her own. I didn’t tell her how to spell anything. By the way, I think the reason for all the apostrophes is because we started learning about them and how they show possession, so she got a little carried away with them.

sweet sweet rose’s
so sweet kiss’s kiss’s
so sweet strawberry’s
strawberry’s so sweet
prety prety princess so prety
heart’s hearts so good yes.

That’s me holding Josiah by the neck. Zoe with her head on her shoulders. Mark’s got a camera and I’m saying, “Say cheese.” I love how Josiah and I are the only ones without big ears.

I apologize

for having not posted since Wednesday. It’s been an up and down week but we’ve survived. I even made supper on Thursday and after eating, promptly had to lie down.

We’ve had a long, fun, busy day at a children’s museum with some friends.

Just want to say, get ready for some pictures. Zoe’s working on a poem that she shared with Mark and I tonight. I just have to brag! I asked if I could borrow it to show to the grandparents (and all of my faithful readers) but she said she thought it wasn’t finished yet. She’s so me! I’ve got notebooks stashed away somewhere full of stories and poems I wrote. I’ll post it as soon as she’s finished with it.

Must sleep for now!

Thinking Pills???

This is how my day has started off:

“I need to go potty.” Sits there and then continues to tee-tee on his chair as I yell, Go!

“Are the dishes in the dishwasher clean?”–Ace

“Yes”

“They’re clean?”

“Yes, they’re still clean.”

“So, are the dishes clean?”

“Yes.”

Thirty seconds later, Zoe is excused from the table and she proceeds to go to the dishwasher, open it up and starts to put her bowl in.

“Zoe, the dishes are still clean!”

Liam’s emptying the dishwasher and I tell him to get a chair so he can stand up and put away the forks, knives, etc.

“A chair?”

“Yes, a chair. Please go get a chair.”

“Is this a chair?” Pointing to what he knows is a stool.

“No, that’s a step stool. Please, go get a chair.”

Walks over to the kitchen table and points.

“Want me to get a chair?”

“That’s what I said, sweetheart. Please get a chair and bring it over here.” Add the extra direction just to make sure he could understand…yeah, right.

“A chair?”

“Uh-huh.”

Passes three chairs closest to him and walks to the next to farthest away from the kitchen area.

“Uhhh, can’t get it.” As he struggles to pull the chair.

I’ve lost total patience with lack of thinking today and inform him, ever so politely to get another chair…preferably one closest to the kitchen area.

Finally, we’re done with chores today. I hope they take their thinking pills before school time!

This is How My Day Started Out

Please don’t panic. It’s not blood. It’s lipstick. While taking a shower Josiah got some lipstick out of the drawer, managed to take the top off, and then redecorate my bathroom as well as paint some on himself. Yes, this was just the beginning to my day. It also included lots of yelling and fussing. Liam deciding that playing was more important than breakfast (and skipping breakfast), spilled Cheerios, and yes, even some school. Oh, what a day!!! Fortunately, I only did a little bet of the yelling and not a whole lot of fussing.

Here’s our funnies for the day…

This morning when the boys were getting dressed, Ace’s pj bottoms went missing. Mark kept asking Ace where they were but he couldn’t find them, neither could we. Now, his pj bottoms are really big short type undies but it works for now. Anyway, when we got home from church and he was changing clothes, guess what we found!?! His pj bottoms had made it to church on under his pants and over his undies. Three layers of clothes, phew! That’s hot! His remark:

“Paster L didn’t know I did that.” He was grinning the whole time.

Ace and Liam were hanging out with me in their bedroom while Mark did some repairs to Zoe’s closet door (I don’t know what happened). This was all right before bedtime. Ace is holding a pet rock he made and said, “I want my rock.”

Without missing a beat, Liam chimed in, “and roll.”

So, waiting around got tiring and Liam and Ace decided that jumping off the bottom bunk would be fun. Since, I don’t really have the energy to go to the ER tonight, I told them not to jump on the bed.

Liam looked at me in all seriousness and said, “I not jumping, I fying (flying).”

While laughing, I told him that flying off the bed was not allowed either and so he politely obeyed and decided to fly off the ground. Unfortunately, he didn’t get far. But he had fun doing it and I promised pillow diving tomorrow after school!

Showered with Blessings

I’d love to post pictures from my friends baby…no, toddler…no, adoption shower. But I didn’t bring my camera because I’m pregnant and completely forgot.

I had the great privilege of helping a friend plan a shower for our other friend who has completed her adoption for her daughter. Not sure how I helped, though, considering I couldn’t cook…just got last minute things and the invitations. Here’s some of K’s story.

Her and her husband came to visit our church when I was helping in the nursery, signing people in and showing people where to go…a greeter. Anyway, when I met them with their little “daughter” I helped them get around, found out they needed a class to go to and sent them to ours. They were great! I loved getting to know them. It wasn’t long after that they joined our church and that I was able to talk with K. Who I thought was their “daughter” was actually their foster daughter. Unfortunately, they were not able to have kids but instead of closing their hearts and home to children, invited them in through fostering. They felt that was the way they could minister to so many families in our area. Boy, have they done a lot of ministering in several years.

They really wanted to adopt their foster daughter that they first brought to church, however, it was not in God’s plans for them to do so. On July 6th, 2007, only three days after she was born C came into their lives. K didn’t have to go through the nine months of carrying her (although she had been praying for a baby for several years), but she was able to walk out of the hospital with her. C is only five days younger that Josiah and it has been so much fun this past year watching her and Josiah grow up (Josiah was 9 lbs at birth, C was 4!). C was also born on Mark’s birthday which is really cool. K told me she always thought that God would give them a girl and they always had a name picked out for a girl. So, we all started calling her by the name M & K picked out.

However, she was always Baby Girl on paper and to the state, until Wednesday. We were thrilled (okay tearfully excited) when K announced that Baby Girl was now C and had a last name too! This little girl has been prayed for from us since Mark and I met M & K. So, for two years we have prayed with, cried with, and hoped for them to have a child to call their own. God has answered that prayer and in the sweetest way.

Lots of fun tears at this shower. K has never had a baby shower before, and it was so much fun just to be able to pamper her…even though she tried to do stuff and help. Since C is not a baby baby anymore, M & K got to register for some fun toys which I’m sure they’re all playing with right now.

Oh, and M & K are still answering the call to foster children in their home and have two other children living with them, both 5, both boys! They are definitely called to care for others children and have shown that calling as we’ve seen children turn around so beautifully in their care.

Thanks Annette for letting me help here and there. It was an honor. And after I helped, I came home, ate a little, and then slept for over an hour…phew!

Ace’s Stats…

Just back from the doctor for Ace’s 4 year check up and he’s a growing boy! He’s dropped down in his weight (which is a good thing) and tracking right on the curve for his BMI.

His weight is 43 1/2 lbs (93%…down from 97%); 40 3/4 inches tall (60%)

He did really well. Cried during shots but he survived them. Luckily there was a toy at the end. Not much else to report.

Dr. B concluded that he probably did have a fungus on his arm and told us to continue to use the anti-fungal cream (better known as jock itch) on it. It looks a lot better than it did on Monday or even Tuesday. It’s not red nor feverish to touch.
