Need Some Input…

So, I was trying to find a new t-shirt that said just what I needed it to say.

Something like:

Yes, they’re all mine.
Yes, we know what causes it (can’t you see we like it).
Yes, we’re expecting, again.
No, the baby’s not an accident (but planned by God).
Yes, we’re thrilled!

Hmmm, what do you think??

Yep, here comes another one on March 17th.

Now here’s the details for all you nosy people who have to know! And because I want to share.

We weren’t “planning” on getting pregnant…hello?! We’re working on an adoption right now and wanted to add to our family exclusively through that. We still feel that adoption is God’s will for us. However, we also just really didn’t “worry” about preventing for our own personal reasons, knowing that if God wanted us to get pregnant again, we would.

I thought there might be a chance of a #5 last month, but it didn’t turn out so. I was convinced we wouldn’t have to worry about it this month…God is in control…He knows we’re adopting, etc.

I decided that since my “friend” didn’t show up on it’s appointed day (trust me, I’m like clockwork), then I would go ahead and do a test the next day. I had felt a little nausea, a lot of tiredness (mostly attributed to getting ready for and going camping) and a lot of irritability. I still didn’t think much about those symptoms, but since there was no evidence otherwise I decided to test.

Surprise, surprise! One word (it was one of those new fangled, can’t second guess digital tests): Pregnant!

I didn’t tell Mark about the test or my symptoms (except he knew I was always tired…but I’m always tired). So, I devised a plan. I bought a maternity shirt and more tests (just to make sure it wasn’t confused…it wasn’t). My spring/summer maternity clothes missed the spring consignment sale because we couldn’t find them. I am now convinced that the house ate them…along with Zoe’s ballet leotard from last year. Okay, back to the story. I put on the maternity shirt and met him at the door when he got home…I just couldn’t wait. I asked him if he liked it (I didn’t…too low cut and very uncomfortable on top), and he said yes.

“You don’t think it makes me look pregnant?”
“Umm,” he says as he looks me up and down.
At this point I was grinning and had to say something quick or I would bust…
“Because that’s what I was goin’ for.”
Biggest I’ve ever seen his eyes get! He stammered out, “Your pregnant!”
That was funny.

We were both in shock all day, but I think it’s finally sinking in. It’s a good sweet surprised shock that God has truly blessed us with children! As opposed to an, “Oh my gosh, what are we going to do and how are we going to cope with another child.” Like adding another child will really throw our family for a loop…hmm, I can handle four but five, oh no!!

As far as adoption, we’ll be continuing on with it. There are no restrictions on waiting, etc while you are pregnant. By the time we finish with the adoption this baby will probably be around 1 or so. We’ll just have to pay a little bit more to update our home study after the baby is born.

TA DA!

Despite being “let out” of his crib earlier in the morning yesterday (more like falling after Liam let the railing down while I was in the shower), Josiah has managed to progress in his steps!

“Lovely” followup

Well, it’s fixed. It was the pressure switch, but I’m not sure if trash actually caused the problem or not. When I dug into the control panel I think the tube was actually disconnected from the switch (i.e., it didn’t pass the “Is it plugged in?” test). So all is well now and the carpet is still drying, but all the other stuff that goes in the utility room is now back in its place.

Thanks for your prayers…there were actually several good things that came of this: 1) the small freezer that needed to be moved out, was (and was picked up today by a buyer) – this will give much needed extra space until the shelves are finished, 2) there were several cat “presents” in various places around the room that needed to be cleaned up, 3) the floor got a good wash which was kind of needed anyway – I think at least some of the water was draining under the back door before I helped it out, 4) the carpet that got wet really needed to be pulled up and thoroughly cleaned by a process like the wet/dry vac to clear out leftover Othello cat smell – you can clearly tell that area was harboring malodorous contents.

So, the point is that God always has a plan even in “tragedy”. It’s just hard to remember that in the thick of the fight/pain/struggles.

Isn’t it lovely…

(Mark’s comments in yellow – 11:59 pm)
Let’s see, it’s 11:30 p.m. right now and I’m sitting at the edge of my computer chair because it’s piled with books, while Mark is using the wet/dry vac in the utility room to vacuum up the remaining three to four inches (more like 3/4 of an inch before any intervention) of water. He hasn’t started in the playroom/schoolroom/office area yet, but it’s a smaller area so it may not take too long (the carpet & bookshelves in this area got pretty wet – vac got up majority and fans are now working on the rest; got the concrete dry, now for the pad). Mark ran the diapers through one cycle and on the next cycle it never stopped filling up. We’re not sure what’s happened but he caught it when he was going in there to get Sunny some food (45 minutes ? later). We are thanking God that it didn’t happen with me here with the kids all alone tomorrow, because I was breaking from the norm and planning to do laundry tomorrow.

I’m going to see if I can find the culprit that caused the washing machine overflow. Hopefully, we’ll be getting to bed before 1! I’m already praying that tomorrow goes okay because we’re going to have to close off the playroom, which is where we all spend most of our day and Ace is on restriction from doing anything remotely fun and entertaining except look at books. I think a trip somewhere fun is in order (limited fun for Ace, though)!

Well, the old “InterWeb” says that it is probably a bad water level switch or some junk in an air tube connected the load size knob. If I had to guess, I would guess the junk route. Clothes with pockets+small kids+busy adults=it’s likely some junk. Pray for my troubleshooting skills and that I can stay awake at work tomorrow.

And we’re…

Standing, standing…and falling, falling!

Josiah started to practice his standing technique yesterday! He sat down on a load of laundry (clean and folded, Thank you very much…and thanks to Mark) and then stood up and tried to step forward! So far, he’s made it one step before doing a face dive. But he thinks it’s pretty cool being able to stand up and try to reach mom or dad!

Change in Plans

So, I’m at home today with the kids. Due to pink eye in Josiah, we had home church instead of actually going to a building. I didn’t want to risk the other kids actually having it and giving it to other kids.

We’ve done our Bible time, sang songs, and listened to a sermon (lifechurch.tv…on Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and believing God not just believing in God…fact versus truth…obeying God no matter what…general stuff that I really needed to hear).

I’m a little bummed because one of Zoe’s friend’s father was preaching today and I’ve never heard him. I would have loved to have been there and I think Zoe would have actually paid attention since she knows him.

Now, we’re still in pjs and watching a video Ace got on Jesus and his life.

Happy Birthday (Early) Ace!

After going back and forth for several months, Ace decided on a Prince Caspian party in May. I, however, approached it with much trepidation. There are no easy decorations, no easy game ideas, and no easy invitation ides to go with this theme. I spent several hours scouring the internet to find Prince Caspian related things. After find things for the first Chronicles of Narnia book, I got my thinking cap on and began to plan! The above are the invitations that were sent off. We did a simple red and gold decor/table decorations. I ordered the pieces for Ace’s cake online (would have paid well over $30 for a Prince Caspian cake in store).

The fun stuff came at the party. We had a special visitor from Narnia at the party. Doctor Cornelius (okay, if you’ve read the book you would know who he is…Prince Caspian’s tutor and a half dwarf/half human). This was by way of a great friend who is also a great actor. Unfortunately, I was not a good director and sent him the script the day before the party. However, he read it great and kept most of the kids attention throughout. After Doctor Cornelius read a summary about Prince Caspian, the kids ran out to attack the Telmarines. Well, actually one Telmarine…that was Mark. We had almost 200 water balloons ready and waiting, complete with a three person balloon launcher to throw them. Eventually, another gracious dad got in on the action to help Mark, but I think the kids were very successful in the attack.

All in all, I think everyone had a wonderful time celebrating Ace’s birthday. And actually, Ace’s birthday is not until next week, but we thought we’d be traveling out of town that week…a change of plans is going to keep us home for his birthday but we’ll still have fun celebrating again!

My Little Artists

Zoe, Ace, and Liam have been asking to paint for a while and I decided I couldn’t put it off anymore. I moved the easel under a drop cloth, threw on old t-shirts and let them go to town.

They even helped me with some redecorating! Don’t worry, it’s tempera paint and came off with a little washcloth.
