Rolllll Tide!

You should have seen Mark tonight. I’m getting his craziness on video next week and show it to everyone! He’s so funny when Alabama plays. He told me he wasn’t performing next week but I highly doubt that as we’ll be playing Georgia!!!

I got to get my Bama sling done before then. I found some Alabama material while visiting my parents and have it ready to make a sling but haven’t had the time yet…gotta get on it so I can wear it to church on Sunday if we when!

I got three slings made and up on the web and one order of cards done. I’m going to bed.

MOPS and beyond

Yesterday was a loooooonnnnnngggggg day. I’m not exaggerating. MOPS went great and I’m so looking forward to this year. After MOPS it was home to nap time, school time and work time. After Mark got home, I headed out to the consignment sale that I volunteered at and put clothes in and got a few “toys” for the kids for gifts for Christmas, etc. That was a pretty fruitful find for Josiah since he’s going to be small and not require much for his Christmas gifts. Then back home to help get the kids in bed and then I find out that my best friend’s mother-in-law had passed away. Totally unexpected. So, I headed over to their house and helped out until about 11 and then back home.

On a happy note, my parents are going to get to go to the Masters practice round next year. Excited? Definitely. My dad has dreamed about going for a long time. We finally were able to get tickets (actually, remembered to inquire about them). And I just got my Focus on the Family Daily Digest about their speaking topic, and the guy they are having on there on Monday and Tuesday is a former player of Dad’s. Dad spoke fondly of him this past summer and I always meant to get in touch with him to get him to write something up…of course, that was when Dad was retiring from coaching…I guess I can get to work on it now, even though I’m not completely convinced this is his last year.

Today, was fun with a field trip to see CCB’s ballet and then play on the playground and eat lunch outside. We all had a good time. I’ve got one sling partially made and have plans to finish up two more before the weekend is over and I have to hit the ground running on MOPS stuff and helping out with our friends’ during the funeral process.

Have a great weekend.

MOPS

Today is the first day of MOPS. I’m feeling better…still congested and sleep deprived (late nights getting things together). This is our second year of MOPS at our church. I’m so excited. I helped start the group and this is my third year as a coordinator. I love meeting and being with other moms who are going through the same things I am. I also love knowing that we are helping them get a little snipit of Christ and a little respite from their children.

I have a great team to work with this year and last night we were able to set up in thirty minutes. I was really surprised how fast it went and am deathly afraid we’ve forgotten something. However, I think we’re good. A friend remarked that we just know what we’re doing this year.

Instead of sitting around typing…I need to get everyone ready!!

Oh yeah, Zoe is doing much better. She’s not coughing at all now. No doctor’s visit needed. Praise God! Josiah’s sleeping secret is the swaddling blanket…ughhh, wish I had figured that out on Monday.

Gettin’ Sick…

As I mentioned Thursday, I wasn’t feeling really good…sore throat, congestion, general yuckiness. By Friday, I had a full fledged sinus infection with fever so I headed to the doctor as soon as they opened. Mark stayed home and watched the kids. I’m now lots better and the drugs seemed to be helping much. I had a slight ear infection the previous week, but it went away on it’s own…I’m thinking that this is something that is lingering from that.

Now, Zoe has a cough that doesn’t want to go away but no other symptoms. Waiting to see before we take her in.

Busy week ahead and not much time for illness on my part. All on my to do list includes: 3 card orders, a sling order, MOPS starting up, MOPPETS work with MOPS, ballet, speech (2 x), field trip, consignment sale…shall I continue??? It’s going to be a very busy week.

Cloth Diapers

Since I feel generally yucky, and I don’t have all my wits about me (sinuses, allergy, cold…who knows), I thought I would post on our cloth diapering adventure. For those who are curious read on…

When Zoe was in diapers, we put her in good old disposable diapers…not the expensive ones, but the cheap brand from Wal-Mart. I liked them, they worked good, no problem.

Then when I was pregnant with Ace, a friend who was also pregnant, told me she was going to use cloth diapers. I thought she was crazy!! But I decided it wouldn’t hurt to do a little research. Now, I’m all about saving some money so I googled cloth diapers online and started comparing costs for diapers. I wound up at DiaperPin and found a great little calculator that determined my costs, etc for cloth versus disposable. I just punched in the numbers and added in all my costs with Josiah’s diapers and we’ll break even in less than 10 months and save over $300 in a year and a half…now, considering that the average toddler potty trains at 2 1/2 to 3, we’re raking in a big savings!!

I was sold…but I wasn’t about to stick my hand in a toilet or use my child to practice voodoo (sticking pins on/in them). So I did more research and found that I could buy diapers with snaps or velcro already on them. What’s more…I could buy diapers that would last from newborn to potty training! Wow! I got really excited. Our first diaper purchases were Little Lambs One Size All in One Diapers. Now these were/are a bit confusing for family and friends to use but they picked up on it. There were snaps in the back to adjust the fit and then an insert that snapped in to help absorb the…well, you know.

Those were great but Liam was a wiggler and trying to snap his diaper four times (two snaps on each side) got me to thinking about getting Josiah diapers with velcro. Just in case he was a wiggler too. I did more research (thanks Google!) and found four different diapers to try. These diapers were mostly what was called “pocket” diapers. They worked by stuffing an insert into the diaper in the back or some other area to absorb the…you know what. The inserts have to be pulled out, which isn’t as bad as I thought, before they are washed. We settled on ones that kept Liam dry all night long with just one insert in them. They are the bumgenius diapers that Josiah is modeling in his two month pics! They are wonderful and easy to clean. We keep an extra insert in the diapers overnight but that’s not too hard.

Oh, and as for the toilet dumping, we actually purchased what is called a mini-bidet or mini-shower that attaches to the toilet and use that to spray the…ahhhemm…off.

If you’re interested in cloth diapering, Diaper Pin has a wealth of information and product reviews. I have to say that my mom thought I was crazy for using cloth diapers and thought I wouldn’t stick with it. She refused to even change one of Liam or Ace’s diapers. However, this weekend, I threw her one of Josiah’s to get him changed and ready to go and she had no problem with it…except that she started to put in on backwards…but to her credit, it’s been a long time since she’s changed a diaper, disposable or otherwise.

Oh, and other benefits…none of my kids have really dealt with bad diaper rash…we’re saving the environment…and their diapers are kind of like a fashion accessory…except that they’re boys and boys don’t have fashion accessories…okay, scratch the last benefit.

I guess I’m goofy when I’m sick.

On to Visit Mark’s Folks

On Sunday, we headed to visit Mark’s parent’s.

Zoe picked tomatoes (one of her favorite vegetables) with Papa. She told him it was her favorite thing to do to pick veggies (while we’re at it, last week she told me that her lollipop was “delicious” and that something was so “weird” and that she was “starving” but she didn’t know what starving meant…her vocabulary is getting big).

After much needed rest on Sunday, Liam woke up to find us all sitting outside enjoying a wonderfully refreshing summer rain. I had just reflected on how I would love for the kids to be up to enjoy playing in the rain as it usually storms during our rains at home (when we have them). Liam took one look at the rain and wanted to get in it. Mark graciously took him out to enjoy it. And they found the basketball goal. Needless to say, it was a big hit!

We’ll label this picture, “Optimism.” (Papa’s observation)

A little help from Dad should do it!

Splashing in the puddles. I thought this was a really neat picture.

Guarding Daddy…I’m not sure if you can really see his face. He thought this was a great game. He got to where he would get the ball and hand it to Mark or me to throw in the hoop.

Market Day with Ab’s Fam

Saturday, during Labor Day weekend, we headed to Market Day to help my folks set up their booth. My dad turns pens using a lathe. I’m working on his work blog and you’ll be able to go here to see some of his work. It was a wonderful day to be out and about. A little humid but very nice and we got a few showers to cool us off. It was so nice to be able to not only visit with my parents but my sister and her family as well. The above picture was the wonderful work of Mark. I would have given up not beping able to get a perfectly posed picture but he saw the cuteness and snapped away. Aren’t they all adorable!?!

Josiah had to give Granddaddy some smiles before he headed to work on Saturday morning. We went to bed at 1 and dad wasn’t even in and then he had to get back up and head to work and then to the Market…needless to say, he took a nap that afternoon.

Go Cougars!

It’s football season again. Dad was supposed to retire last year but the head coach was unable to find a replacement for Dad, so he’s got one more year to go…we pray! His team won! They are 1-0 right now. I stayed for the first half but left right at the end of half time since it was raining. I was worried there would be a down pour on poor Josiah’s head, so we waited it out in the van. Liam was enthralled with the whole thing and would not move out of the rain for anything. He watched the whole game and loved every minute of it. We had him saying, “Go Cougars!” by the end of the night.

Oh yeah, Roooolllll Tide!!!

Prayers Answered

As of right now, our friends on the Honduras Mission Trip are safe. They are staying at a children’s home in Yoro, Honduras in the mountains. The hurricane is now a class 1 which means it’s not very much a hurricane. They will stay in and around the children’s home doing work until it’s time for them to come home. Please continue to pray for their safety.
