Thursday Construction Update

Okay, so they showed up close to 10 and started working on the siding. By the time we got back from speech, around 2:00 they were packing up to leave! I must have the wrong job! I’m not sure about that, but at least they did get some of it done…

I think it’s going to look really good. We were a little concerned about it looking like we stuck a box on the end of the house, but the architecture of our house really helps play into the look. The living room, playroom area is jutted out and the bedrooms are back from that…this just adds to a little bit back from the bedrooms…I’ll have to show what I mean when it’s all done.

Yippee! One side done. Of course, the other side (not the one with the window) lacked about 2 feet before being finished…I’m just a stickler for going ahead and getting done with something before I leave it. Are they union workers or something??!!

Potty Update (for those that really want to know)

This past Friday, Ace, Superman (his toy), and I had a little talk. Ace asked me what he was wearing (pointing to his pants). I told him underwear and that Superman was a big boy and went potty. He said, “Like you a big girl, and Zoe a big girl, and daddy a big boy.” I told him yes. He told me he wanted to be a big boy too. So we talked more about how he had to go potty. This is something we’ve talked about a lot but this time, I encouraged Ace to take Superman to potty…and he did…and did so some during the weekend.

So, Monday at MOPS, I’m going around checking on the kids rooms and Ace comes walking out of the kids bathroom with his pants down asking for help. I go in and help him dress before he loses his dignity and his teacher told me he had asked to go potty. Then he said he had to go again during MOPS!!! YIPPEEE!

So, Tuesday he had one accident (mostly due to me not reminding him to go) and Wednesday we went back into undies (why, Superman of course). He told me he had to go potty once during supper on Wednesday but I mostly reminded/encouraged him to go through out the day and he had no accidents.

Today has been great! He’s gone to try and potty every time I’ve told him. He even told me before nap he had to go potty. I’m still putting training pants over him at nap. I’m hoping we’re in the last potty training stages. This still gives us about 10 weeks to get fully trained and comfortable before Josiah gets here! If he stays dry today and tomorrow, I’m chunking the training pants and we’ll just use disposable pull-ups for church in the morning.

It’s spring!!

Actually, I think we bypassed spring and are heading to early summer! It’s been nice and warm here. Yesterday, we donned swimsuits (well, I donned a sewing needle to make repairs and adjust straps on one of Zoe’s swimsuits) and headed to the backyard to play in the sprinkler. I’m looking forward to getting a “pool” and playing in it soon…minus sewing needle. Liam loved the sprinkler and I had to turn the water off on him. It was still pretty cool when we went out, so Zoe and Ace gave up the game after about 30 minutes. When I was drying Liam off, he was shivering cold. I love the boys’ swimsuits! I think they are supposed to be that long…I think they look like Little Men. Zoe had picked out a ballerina swimsuit this year and was doing ballet all over the yard!

Liam’s smiles

Liam has all of these cute smiles…so I thought I would share them and explain his meaning behind each one.

The “I’m cute and flirty” smile

“Impish” grin as termed by his babysitter (our friend). He looks mad in the picture but it’s more of an, “Look out, I’m trouble” type smile!
The “I’m a happy kid” smile!

Wednesday Construction Update

No pictures to show for today. The siding guy was supposed to come, and they did show up about 10:45 and asked if it would be okay to come tomorrow…me, being the pushover I can be, said, “that’s fine!” Uggghhhh! Now why did I do that??!

However, the day was full of playing outside (in an upcoming post) and waiting on the tub and window guy.

The tub guy came out around lunch time (which I had to forego to talk with him…I did eat just way later than usual). We are getting a “re-bath” done to the boys’ bathroom. You can see the pictures of what the tub looks like in the previous construction post! I had gray hair stress moments trying to pick out the style and the color and finally gave up and agreed with Mark to go after he got off work to select the color. Lots of pressure on that front. Mark is still in shock over how much it cost to have it redone but our contractor told us up front that his cost would be about the same and not as durable as the re-bath. I’m glad we’re having it done. Who knows what is lurking in the peeled off grout and other spots in that yucky bathtub! The tub guy even suggested we not use the shower in there for now (and since we don’t have walls, we won’t). It’ll take about 8 weeks to get the custom made pieces in but only a day to install…so finishing that bathroom will have to wait until after Josiah appears!

We’ll go this weekend to pick out tile for our bathroom surround and possibly the floors too. I, at least, have a good idea what I want in there. We’re supposed to be getting a maple laminate vanity, and I’m going to look for a stone textured look to go in the tile.

The window guy came in the afternoon and very quietly counted the windows (all three were asleep…yahoo). At least his price was more along what we were thinking. We will probably order those next week. It’ll take about 4 weeks for them to come in, however….at least that will be before or close to before Josiah is born. Those also take only one day to install…it’ll be nice having energy efficient windows! We’ll even have them in our bathrooms.

Construction Update for Monday & Tuesday

Construction was in full swing on Monday. They started before I left for MOPS tearing out the wall to the hall closet and bracing the current doorway to our bedroom. Now the entrance to our bathroom is through the hallway. This week, we’ve got electricians coming in, inspectors, tub guy, window guy, and siding people! We’re very busy!! Fortunately, on Monday, my best friend offered to take the kids so they could rest while construction was going on! Big plus and I barely got anything accomplished…but I tried.

Entrance from the hallway to what will be the “boys” bathroom.

Liam soooo loved watching the electricians on Tuesday, while I fretted that he would decide to pick up some deadly tool and use it against himself (he’s pretty accident prone). He’s so curious. Here he is watching the electrician install a box for a switch to the boys’ bathroom. I’m so excited that both the boys bathroom and our bathroom will now have ventilation fans (a must for any boys’ bathroom, as far as I’m concerned!)

And here was a momento left by one of our nice electricians. “Bless his heart…” he didn’t even realize he had done it until Bill came by and I pointed it out to him. I guess his foot slipped off of the beam he was using in the attic and he dug a little deeper. They were super nice guys, though…very friendly with the kids and very patient about little Liam following them around. Of course, I took off with the kids for a weekly trip to Wal-Mart and then ushered them out the door until I had to get lunch ready (before speech).

Future Gardners

I had some extra potting soil from planting impatiens, and decided to let Zoe and Ace pick out a plant to pot and learn a little about gardening. Here they are with their plants…they are perennials and I explained to Zoe and Ace that they had to take care of their plants so they’ll get to see them year after year. It’ll be interesting to see how they do. Since Zoe’s attracts butterflies, we put them both in the butterfly garden (which is pretty with the goldenrod blooming…the columbine just finished and the lantana is starting to burst forth!).

Zoe’s purple pincushion flower. She wanted it to make butterflies come to our house.

Ace picked out dianthus for the red flowers.

Construction Update-Last Week

Not much to post. As I stated earlier, they were working on finishing up other projects so we were kind of set aside until this week (I can’t post about all that’s going on this week). Here’s last week’s pics:

The hole is gone and awaiting siding.
I couldn’t get a picture of the doorway because it was boarded up…so here’s a picture of the board!

Catch Up-Scrapbooking Trip

From the top of the falls at Amicalola looking out at the valley. The falls have over a 700 foot drop.
This is the very top of the falls. We attempted to walk to the base of the falls but this pregnant gal couldn’t quite make it! It was a steep walk from our cottage to the base, so you’ll just have to settle for this smidgen of God’s beautiful waterfall.

Lookie at all the pages I got done! Finished up 2005…gotta get Liam’s done before Josiah gets here and I’ll feel good about where I am in my hobby!

Annette and her finished pages.

Melissa L. and her finished pages! She actually had twice as many since she had some finished pages on the other side.

Melissa M. finished up several albums these are two she worked on! She’s so organized, she is caught up with all of 2007!

Another quick (but long) update

I will get pictures up soon, I promise. Here is a quick update:

Construction: has been pretty much nonexistent this week. Mr. Bill is waiting on the electrician. However, Mark talked with Mr. Bill yesterday, and if the electrician is unable to come out tomorrow, then Mr. Bill will come out and start working on the door to the boys’ bathroom. I’m also supposed to be picking out siding color, but have yet to see any samples. I went yesterday and picked out colors, I think, for the kitchen, boys’ bathroom, and, finally, our bedroom. Last night, we cleaned out our hall closet and took the doors off…now, where to store all this stuff!

Kids: Liam has started waving and saying, “dye dye” anytime anyone leaves. It’s very cute. We’re working on the correct pronunciation of “bye bye” but that’s slow coming. He also says his own form of “thank you.” He’s learned the sign for “please,” too. Zoe’s speech continues to go well. We’re still working on the ‘s’ sound. She wants to say “st” instead of “s.” Ace continues to grow and learn. We’re working on planning his birthday party so that I won’t have to think about it after the baby gets here.

Baby Josiah update: We went to the doctor yesterday. He is doing good. I measured 29 weeks, which is right on target. I was able to talk to Dr. J about a lot of stuff. Since my due date has varied by three dates (6/29, 7/5, and 7/12)…after some discussion, we landed on 7/5 based on ovulation (sorry if you didn’t want to know that). That’s precisely where I thought we might be due to begin with. However, Dr. J is going to be out of town 6/29 through 7/3)! Yikes! He loves to deliver his own babies and suggested we do it early. That led to the discussion of not wanting to be induced and not wanting an epidural (all of you who didn’t know that, I’m not crazy, I’ll post my reasons later). We agreed to wait and see what happens. Dr. J is very laid back and we are too when it comes to labor, so we’re all just going to take it as it goes. He told us about a lady who just delivered…she was at 5-6 dilated and wouldn’t let him use pitocin at all. She stayed at 5-6 for over 16 hours and finally after he broke her water (and nothing happened), she let him use a little bit of pitocin and that baby popped out after an hour and a half. Mark and I laughed and told him if I was walking around at 5-6 dilated to please induce because I’m going to be ready to see a baby by then! Also, it looks like we’ll not be using St. Joseph’s Hospital…that was the hospital we used for Zoe, Ace, and Liam. I was so sad to see they had taken the sign down at St. Joe’s. It was purchased by a company and some area physicians. We talked with Dr. J and he said that St. Joe’s is now going to be Trinity Hospital and much much better than what it was. We decided that’s where we want to go. It’s so much smaller than the other hospital we go to and it doesn’t feel like you’re being run through a “baby factory” which is a feeling I get at the other hospital. I looked up last night to see if they had the new website set up, but it’s not up yet. But we did see that Dr. J was on the board of directors which means he’s got all the good inside info! I’m excited about this new change.

My tooth: I had a root canal on Wednesday. The nerves were pretty much dead but it still hurt a little. The endodontist was good and was able to finish it all in one sitting. I was not very comfortable through it (1 1/2 hours on my back almost lying on my head). Poor Josiah couldn’t get comfortable and moved a whole lot. The pain is much better today. I’ve only had to take regular tylenol for the pain. I took just one today but mostly for a headache from sleeping funny.

Well, it’s not quite 7:30 and all the munchkins are up! Guess we’ll start our day. I hope to post pictures later today or this weekend.
