Friday Faves

I thought I’d share this since I love music. Another friend has been doing this fave, thing so I thought I’d chime in.

For today: Hymns and Modern Praise songs

My absolute favorite hymn (actually, I have many) is God of Grace and God of Glory. I love how it sounds and the words are amazing! I discovered this beauty when we first got our hymnals and were flipping through trying to find a hymn for the month. It seems so relevant to the day we live in.

God of grace and God of glory
On Thy people pour Thy power
Crown Thine ancient church’s story
Bring her bud to glorious flower
Grant us wisdom
Grant us courage
For the facing of this hour
For the facing of this hour

Lo! the hosts of evil round us
Scorn Thy Christ, assail His ways!
Fears and doubts too long have bound us,
Free our hearts to work and praise
Grant us wisdom,
Grant us courage
For the living of these days
For the living of these days

Cure Thy children’s warring madness
Bend our pride to Thy control.
Shame our wanton, selfish gladness
Rich in things and poor in soul
Grant us wisdom,
Grant us courage,
Lest we miss Thy kingdom’s goal,
Lest we miss Thy kingdom’s goal.

Set our feet on lofty places;
Gird our lives that they may be
Armored with all Christ-like graces
In the fight to set men free.
Grant us wisdom,
Grant us courage
That we fail not man nor Thee,
That we fail not man nor Thee!

And my favorite worship/praise song is “You Are” by Neal Cooper
I don’t have a way to get the lyrics without listening to the entire song…so you’ll just have to enjoy it via video (the sounds a little distorted but the words…amazing!).

Antioxidants…Yumm!

Grow your own pomegranates!!

Our tree was getting a bit droopy and while most of the pomegranates still are not ripe, we needed to get some off the tree in hopes they’ll ripen off the vine and to get the others a chance to grow. This looks to be one of our best “crops” this year. As we’ve never really done much to cultivate or help them grow, I use the term “crop” loosely. We do cut back from around the tree and Mark prunes the branches back.

One is the loneliest number…

I’m thinking Josiah thought we were doing some sort of weird Easter egg hunt.
Pick pomegranates. Check.
Bury pomegranates to make more trees. Check.
Unfortunately, plastic buckets do not make fertile ground for pomegranate trees!

Laboring on Labor Day…with help!

We decided to tackle a semi-small project on labor day. Actually, it’s been an ongoing project for the past couple of years. The project included replacing rickety shelving and adding shelving to our utility room. Believe me, these wooden shelves (attached to the wall by a very small piece of wood) were packed with junk. There were similar shelves on the other side of the door…to the left but those were removed a year ago. Yep, it’s taken us a whole year to replace a wall of shelves. We’re still not completely done with this wall as there is shelving that needs to be purchased and installed above the doorway. Painting, and installation took less than 2 hours…going through all the stuff took about as long. Luckily, for me, it was Mark’s side so he got to go through and put up most of it.
Up next is to do the side where the baskets are (and Mark’s shoes are hanging from). The idea is to put enough shelving over there to put all his tools on. That’ll clear up about 3 of these shelves leaving room for bulk food items and other things we need to store. This was a massive improvement over what was here…there was no where to walk in this corner.

Mark had a little helper while he worked on the project:

He really worked hard and did a good job for a three year old! Although, he did bang his finger a couple of times. After wielding a hammer, he then helped hold screws for Mark. I could hear them talking while I was working with Zoe and Ace doing school. Not sure if Mark was able to say much but Liam was a little chatterbox about this and that. I can tell already, helping daddy is going to be their connection. Let’s see what project I can cook up next so they can have some more bonding time…hmmmm.

Hang On!

Liam shaking his head up and down to Mark: Daddy, HAAANG ON!

Mark: Why?

Liam (head still shaking): Because my head is shaking!

We’re getting ready for a trip so life here is a bit hectic…please enjoy my children’s funniest sayings! For some reason, they’ve been on a role this week!

How to Feed a Baby

I know, I shouldn’t even put this on the blog but I have to share and I have to remember this because it’s just too funny!

On Sunday, Mark fixes the kids “snupper, ” a snack supper, if you will. We have to be at church early for Awana, so this is a neat treat for the kids. Ceili Rain now likes to eat whenever she sees another person with food and was getting a bit fussy to eat while watching her sibs eat.

Mark asked me if he should go ahead and feed Ceili Rain. I’m in the play/school/officeroom getting things read for the next week so I didn’t hear what the kids were saying, but he came in the room snickering…

Ace’s comment to Mark’s question: But you don’t have bras!

Call me crude all you want…that was funny!

Eat Your Vegetables and other Sayings

Zoe, Ace, Liam, L & J talking a couple of weeks ago.

L (or J or Zoe…can’t remember which): Is your mom older than your dad?

Zoe: Yes.

Ace: Cuz she ate her vegetables.

Liam’s decided he wants to be bigger than Ace and he told Ge while visiting Granddaddy in the hospital. She told him that he would be. Ever since then, two weeks later, that Ge said he was going to get bigger. He’s holding on to that hope and eating more vegetables and fruits! Whatever it takes.

I got a tooth lost!

That’s Ace-ease for “I lost a tooth!” He’s had a super wiggly tooth for awhile and every once in a while he would let Mark fool with it. But it was very sensitive…at least for my super sensitive boy and he would want to quit shortly after working on it.

Yesterday, he finally came up and announced it needed to be pulled. He then asked me to wiggle it to see. Choking by my gagging reflex and not looking, I obliged. It was, indeed, very wiggly. However, since I don’t do feet or teeth, I told him he’d have to wait until dad got home. Mark walked through the door and it was, “Hi Dad! My tooth needs to come out!” So, after Mark got settled in at home they traipsed off to the bathroom and Ace squeezed my hand while Mark did a little tug…out it came. A few tears but lots of smiles left.

Liam was super excited and now, since he wants to grow big like Ace, he now wants to lose a tooth like Ace.

Breakthrough

Ceili Rain was extremely fussy yesterday. She refused to nap. So, yesterday afternoon, I rubbed her gums and she got really quiet and I felt a tooth! Aha! It just broke through the gums yesterday, so it’s got a little ways to come all the way in. Even with being so fussy during the day, she slept all night last night (well, eight hours). She was also pretty happy as long as we didn’t leave her in one spot for long.

On a sad note, she’s now moved up in size for her clothes. I’m still in awe that she’s growing up. It feels like she was just born.

At any rate, I doubt I’ll get a picture of her tooth any time soon as she likes to keep her hands and other things in her mouth!
