Zoe’s New Look

In March, one of our family’s friends, Kennis Nix (she had just turned 7 the day before), was taken to Children’s Hospital with the thought that she might have spinal meningitis. That diagnosis changed in a blink to a brain tumor and our friends lives changed forever with those words. She had surgery the next day which removed 100% of the tumor but she is currently continuing with radiation and chemotherapy treatment. Kennis is a special girl and we all love her family very much. Kennis and my (Abbie’s) niece, Jacie are best friends.

In June, Zoe was able to meet/play with Kennis and her sister (who is the same age as Zoe) at Jacie’s 7th Birthday party. At that time, Kennis had lost all of her hair due to chemo. I had been talking to Zoe about Kennis not having hair. Had suggested to Zoe that she may want to donate some of her hair to Locks of Love so that children like Kennis could have hair. She had dismissed the idea until she actually met Kennis. After she met Kennis, she told me she wanted to get her hair cut and give it to children who don’t have hair. I initially stated that I would do it with her, but I got very aggravated with my hair and decided it needed to be cut. So, Zoe and I went to the beauty salon together yesterday.

She was very excited and grinned the whole time. Mama was a little beside herself but I fought back the tears!

And here are the results!

  1. We think it is great that you want to minister those sick with cancer by letting your hair be cut! It will be wonderful for someone to have a wig from your beautiful locks. The new hair cut looks great on you! Thanks for caring and sharing.
