Rockin’ the Van

I’m into things rocking today. I told Mark about the dentist telling me about putting sealants on the kids adult molars to help with preventing cavities and asked if he could check to see if insurance covered it. It does. So I said, “We’re rockin’ the sealants!” I don’t know what’s gotten into me…

Oh, back to the story…

We passed a friend and his daughter a couple of weeks ago as we were coming to church for Awana. They were walking. The daughter looked at her daddy and said, “Daddy, they’ve got a fancy car.”

When the friend told us, I just pulled out, “Awww yeah, we’re rockin’ the van!” Mark got a kick out of that one.

Ceili Rain’s Two Months Old

Don’t mess wit’ the best!

Stats:
12 lbs (80%)
23 3/4 inches long (90%)

Her head is a little small measuring less than 50% but she’s hitting her developmental milestones so Dr. B is not worried. She said that some kids just have really small heads. She is a petite little thing. I know some of you are looking at her numbers thinking I’m lying but all my kids have been in the 95% or higher for height. So, she’s petite for us giants! Looks like she’ll take after my mom’s side of the family (love ya mom).

More interesting Ceili Rain facts. She can go from a coo and smile to a scream in 2.5 seconds or less! We still can’t figure out her eye color. It ranges from a gray blue to green to a light brownish color depending on the light, what she’s wearing, and time of day (actually the latter has nothing to do with it but I needed a third thing to balance out this extremely long sentence). She is the only one of our babies who does not have a cleft chin. It’s kind of odd seeing one of my babies without one actually (oh, and that is a genetic trait passed down from me for anyone curious…I gotta claim somethign on my babies since they look so much like Mark).

Josiah started running a fever yesterday afternoon, so while we were at the doctor’s office, she checked him out (have I mentioned lately how much I love our pediatrician). He’s all clear except he has sores in his throat which means…hand, foot, and mouth disease has descended on our house again. Zoe and Ace have already had it but I’m not sure if Liam has. If he has, then we didn’t notice it. So, he may get it soon. Also, if it’s a different strain then Zoe and Ace could get it as well. Those non mommy’s who read my blog (if you are out there), not to worry, hand food, and mouth (not hoof and mouth) is a viral infection that toddlers love to share with each other. They can get sores/bumps on their hands and feet. My kids never really did but they did get them in their throats and it hurts, a lot. They can also get a little fever with it.

Ceili Rain says, “Thanks Aunt Heather for the cool shirt! It rocks the house…and the swing! My nurses raved over it!”

The Kitchen is on the Attack!

Apparently, our kitchen has it in for us. Wednesday night, Mark had a chocolate craving and was out to make some brownies. He turned on the oven to preheat and, in his words, there was a “mini-explosion” around the heating element. I was on the computer working on something and when I finished went upstairs to see what he was doing. His words to me were that the oven was broke.

Now, I about did a little happy dance and I told him I could pretend to be sad if he wanted me to. That’s when he told me he was pretty sure it was just the heating element and he can order that part and fix it. It didn’t even cost close to what a new oven would cost. Oh well. I’m holding out for a new flat top oven/stove…I thought it was going to come sooner than later…but it looks like it won’t. Would it be bad of me to pray that the heating element doesn’t fix it??

Then today, our dishwasher has backed up into the sink and there’s a nice pool of dirty water hanging out up there. Our dishwasher is also on it’s last leg as I broke the door awhile back…I’m wondering if that is part of the cause, but Mark thinks it’s the disposal. We’ll see. We’ve got the money saved to get a new dishwasher but we just haven’t made the purchase as we’re waiting on a holiday to try and get a really good deal. I’m so cheap!

I haven’t forgotten that Ceili Rain’s two month birthday has passed. I was waiting on her check up so I could put out her statistics for all the curious family members. Check up is done, but now I want to get a picture of her in her cute little onesie she has on today before I post the update…so stay tuned…

La De Da…At the Symphony

For Mother’s Day, we again, celebrated on Saturday. We attended a free Pops concert by a local symphony. It was beautiful and the fun was added by a friend bringing her four children and in-laws with them.

My friend K and two of her littles…J just turned a year in April and M (the baby) was born four days after Ceili Rain! She gets the Super Mom award. Thankfully, in this picture, hubby J is helping feed baby J!

K also has a daughter who is Zoe’s age…they hit it off right from the moment they met (much like her mom and me) and have been close buds ever since.

I think I look good sideways, no?!? I thought I turned the picture but guess I forgot.
Josiah enjoyed rearranging my hair and adding to it by picking grass and putting it in.
Chillin’ like a villain.

J and Josiah are pretty good buds too. They started off their friendship by pulling each other’s hair…I mean by J pulling Josiah’s hair and Josiah just rubbing his sweet bald head!

I think J thought we were all clapping for him when the music started. He stood up and squealed!

Some tired boys.

Oh, and the orchestra
Oh yeah! His beautiful shirt was the second of the day as the first was covered in lollipop drool and the lollipopitself. This one is covered in cream cheese dip, mashed potatoes and fried chicken. I think he was saving it up for later.

Surprisingly, Liam was the one who sat still through most of the performance. He sat in my lap through the first half and we talked about how the music got louder and what he thought was happening in it…the good guys, the bad guys, happy or sad. He soaked it all in and hardly took his eyes away from the stage.

President Sirleaf

The Today Show interviewed President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberia’s president . She has written an autobiography called This Child will be Great. I can’t wait to read it about her life and glean more information about Liberia. Click here to read the article. She and Al Roker sing Obama’s praises but that’s no surprise coming from our media.

A Tribute

While at the homeschool convention this weekend, Mark and I decided to skip the evening festivities in lew of going out on a date. We found a casual dining place to take the poop covered sling and baby. It turned out to be real casual and a lot of fun. It was a former gas station that had been converted into a burger place. We ate in the garage. Mark said the burger was great. And did I have a camera?? Of course not.

For dessert, we stopped at a bakery two doors down. They were just getting ready to play some jazz. We ate a really nasty brownie, drank some wonderful lemonade, and listened to some beautiful music. We also got some sweet comments on our sweet baby in the sling. While we were sitting there, another patron came up and asked if we had seen the tribute and pointed to three picture frames at the back of the bakery. As we left, we ddecided to see who they were paying tribute to. I was Barack Obama. Mark and I chuckled and continued on out the door. We didn’t read it all, but Mark caught the words “To our modern day Solomon.” Mark didn’t feel too hopeful about that statment since ultimately Solomon disobeyed God and led his country to destruction. I pointed out that he had several wives and concubines…hmmm.

Oh, I just typed this whole post while feeding Ceili Rain…I’m talented at one handed pecking. That’ll come in handy if I ever lose a hand.

I’m So Honored…

to accept the Mother of the Year award! I’d like to thank all the little people…oh, and the littlest of all who helped me clinch the award thanks to this:

Mark and I attended a homeschool conference this past weekend. As an aside, I’m totally not a blog stalker but I found a blog on my Google Reader page and read it and realized she lives the exact same life that I do, except she has twin five year olds…I only have singletons…however, while at the conference, I told Mark I thought I saw the woman who wrote the blog. He laughed and told me I needed to tell her hello so I wouldn’t be reading yet another blog by someone I didn’t know. I chickened out…but then I found out later it was her! Ughh! Oh well.

Anyway, this conference has a big used book sale. So big that you have to have a timed or numbered entry to get in. We were set for 10:10 per our badges. I had just finished nursing Ceili Rain and slipped her back in the sling. I told Mark that she probably had a dirty diaper and he informed me we had about two minutes. I weighed my choice and decided a good buy was far more important than changing a dirty. Plus, when I looked (yeah, I looked) there was only a little bit.

So two minutes passed and Mark and I took off in different directions. I distinctly remember bending over the table and catching a whiff of breastmilk poop. Hmm, I thought, I guess she really needs a change. So, I looked around for Mark and then went back to my examination of the books…still smelling that lovely aroma. Mark made his appearance a little while later with just a few things from my list. I asked him if he could change Ceili Rain’s diaper and because he’s an awesome dad he obliged. I scooted her out of the sling and he took off to a far corner of the exhibit hall.

I don’t remember why, but I for some reason I decided to put my hand in the sling…and came back with a poop covered hand. Yep! She had a huge blowout. I took the sling off and marched over to Mark who informed me of the obvious…her diaper leaked…to which I informed him of the same obvious…all over the sling. He cleaned her up, wiped down the sling, and I stuck her back in it for the rest of the weekend.

And that, my friends, is why I deserve the Mother of the Year award. I made my daughter ride in a sling that had poop all over it. To my defense, we wiped most of it out and put a burp cloth over it so she wouldn’t get any on her. And also, my new sling that I made has a wonderful poop hiding pattern on it. It took me a little time to find the stain when we got home but I did and it came out.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I’ve got one other story to share for the weekend but it doesn’t fit in this category and it’s already a long post to begin with.
